Habitat: Muck bottom in 0-2 meters of water where it often forms dense canopies with other floating leaf species. Common assoc.: (Ceratophyllum demersum) coontail, (Nymphaea odorata) white water lily, (Lemna minor) small duckweed, (Potamogeton crispus) Curly-leaf pondweed. Common in calm water bays.
