| Habitat: | Beautiful mesic hardwoods with the majority of the canopy consisting of Acer saccharum, Acer rubrum, Tilia americana, Fraxinus americana, Ostrya virginiana, and a smattering of Betula allegheniensis. Claytonia caroliniana is prevalent. Anemone quinquefolia, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Anemone americana, Luzula acuminate, and Caulophyllum thalictroides are also present. The name of the road comes from the legend (may be fact) that the men of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) worked so hard that their pay averaged a nickel a mile in the development of this road. | |
