Habitat: Muck and sand bottom in water up to 2.5 meters. Common assoc.: (Ceratophyllum demersum) coontail, (Eleodea canadensis) common waterweed, (Potamogeton robbinsii) Robbins (fern) pondweed.  Widespread and dominant in its preferred habitat; especially in the north bays. Expanding in the bays north of the bridge and channel.
