Status: Native
Plant: erect, perennial, 1'-3' tall forb, stems finely hairy especially along margins and at the leaf nodes; from elongated rhizomes
Flower: pink streaked with dark red, 6-parted, 3/8" long, star to tubular shape, petal-like tepals separate and turning upward only near the tip; inflorescence only 1 flower above the nodes along the stem; blooms June-July
Fruit:rounded, reddish-purple to red, 1/4"-1/3" berry
Leaf:alternate, lance-like with pointed tips; stalkless, but not clasping
Habitat: moderate moisture; forests; in rich soil
