Because of technology changes and personnel changes at UWSP and the Wisconsin State Herbarium, the database of plant species housed at this site was merged with the database from the OLD WisFlora website to create a new Flora of Wisconsin website at Currently we are encouraging all Wisplant viewers to begin using the Flora of Wisconsin website as soon as possible. Wisplants will remain operational through July 13th. After that date, all traffic to Wisplants will be redirected to the Flora of Wisconsin website.

American wild sensitive-plant, northern wild senna
Senna: from the Arabic name Sana
hebecarpa: hebe for "young man;" carpos for "fruit;" hence "fuzzy fruited"

Status: Native
Plant: erect, perennial, 3'-6' tall forb, mostly smooth above
Flower: yellow, 5-parted, 3/4"-1 1/4" wide, stalked, petals slightly unequal, buds nodding; inflorescence several, many-flowered clusters (panicle) at the end of the stems; blooms July-Aug.
Fruit:pod not flat or readily opening when mature, space around the seeds nearly square; seeds flat, nearly as long as wide
Leaf:evenly once pinnately-divided into 6-10 pairs, stalks usually with a large club- to ovate-shaped gland
Habitat: full to partial sun; moderate moisture to moist; open woods, roadsides, streambanks; in sandy, loamy soil
