Status: Native
Plant: perennial, deciduous tree to 98' tall; gray to dark gray bark with wide, shiny ridges separated by shallow fissures, inner bark pinkish
Flower: dark reddish brown, terminal, oval to elliptic buds; blooms in spring
Fruit:acorns biennial, saucer- to cup-shaped cup covering 1/4-1/3 of the nut; oval to oblong nut
Leaf:oval, elliptic to obovate in outline, bases almost flat, edges with 7-11 lobes and 12-50 sharp points; lobes mostly oblong and less than 1/2 way to the rib; underside pale green, upper side dull green
Habitat: medium moisture to dry; slopes, uplands
