Plant: erect, biennial/perennial, 4"-24" tall forb with usually woolly stems
Flower: head 1/2"-1" wide with 8-10 yellow rays, disk 1/4" - 1/2" wide; inflorescence clusters of several to many heads; blooms Aug.-June
Fruit:dry seed, softly hairy on fluffy pappus
Leaf:basal leaves tapering to the stalk, toothed or lobed, underside woolly, stem leaves getting smaller toward the top
Habitat: sun; dry; prairies, cliffs
