Plant: erect, perennial, to 5' tall, semi-aquatic sedge; stems triangular; soft rhizomes
Flower: inflorescence tight clustered spikelet from side of bract at stem top, spikelet of sharp-pointed yellow-brown scales
Fruit:nutlet, with 2 bristles, blunt beak
Leaf:merely short sheaths at stem base
Habitat: wet; marshes shores in water 2'-3' deep
