Plant: erect or drooping, annual, 4"-16" tall forb, hairless, often with many branches; stems weak, trailing or erect, often reddish
Flower: pinkish to white, tiny, 4 -5-parted, petals fall off very early; triangular appendages, about the same size as the sepals, alternate with them; solitary in the leaf axils
Leaf:opposite or whorled
Habitat: wet; in muddy soil
