Status: Native
Plant: twining, perennial, up to 16' tall forb; stems sharply angled, nodes smooth
Flower: white, 5-parted, petals and petal-like sepals, on stalks winged above the joint; inflorescence 3 1/2" spike-like clusters from the upper leaf axils; blooms July-Oct.
Fruit:black, 1/4"-1/2" long, very shiny, dry seed with the 3 outer sepals winged
Leaf:oblong or oval with a deep, wide, heart-shaped base and a pointed tip
Habitat: moist; woods, forests, meadows, cliffs
