Status: Native
Plant: erect, annual, 2'-6' tall forb with many branches; stems nodes becoming jagged but not bristly; taprooted
Flower: white to pink, 5-parted, petals and petal-like sepals connected at the base; inflorescence of many 1/2" - 2" long, erect, robust, cylindrical, blunt, spike-like clusters on stalks jointed at the top; blooms July-Sept.
Fruit:dry seed concave on both sides
Leaf:alternate, lance-like, up to 1 3/4" wide
Habitat: wet to moist; disturbed sites; in rich soil
