Plant: erect, perennial, 20"-40" tall forb, usually with many branches; clustered, fleshy, fibrous roots
Flower: yellow to white, 4-parted, 1/2" wide, often found with the petals fallen and only the pinkish sepals remaining; blooms July-Aug.
Leaf:alternate, lance-like to linear, mostly stalkless
Habitat: wet; woods, shores
