Because of technology changes and personnel changes at UWSP and the Wisconsin State Herbarium, the database of plant species housed at this site was merged with the database from the OLD WisFlora website to create a new Flora of Wisconsin website at Currently we are encouraging all Wisplant viewers to begin using the Flora of Wisconsin website as soon as possible. Wisplants will remain operational through July 13th. After that date, all traffic to Wisplants will be redirected to the Flora of Wisconsin website.

Callitriche: from the Greek calos, "beautiful," and trichos, "hair," because of the beautiful stems
hermaphroditica: from Hermaphroditus a son of Hermes & Aphrodite who grew together with Salmacis into one person, a hermaphrodite

Status: Special Concern
Plant: annual, usually entirely submersed aquatic; stems fine; shallow roots
Flower: 2-parted, minute, in the leaf axils
Fruit:round, winged capsule with a deep groove halving the fruit fruit drawing
Leaf:all submersed leaves 1/4"-3/4" long, single veined, dark green
Habitat: quiet water; in muddy, sandy soil
