Because of technology changes and personnel changes at UWSP and the Wisconsin State Herbarium, the database of plant species housed at this site was merged with the database from the OLD WisFlora website to create a new Flora of Wisconsin website at http://wisflora.herbarium.wisc.edu/. Currently we are encouraging all Wisplant viewers to begin using the Flora of Wisconsin website as soon as possible. Wisplants will remain operational through July 13th. Status: Native
Plant: erect, perennial, 2'-5' tall forb; stout stems with lines of hairs toward the top; from long, colony-forming rhizomes
Flower: head 1/3"-1" wide with 20-40 white to pale blue rays; inflorescence elongated, conical, leafy, branched cluster of many heads
Leaf:only along the stem, lance-like to linear, usually toothed, stalkless and slightly clasping, smooth to the touch
Habitat: partial sun to shade; moist; low areas, woods
Notes: plants extremely variable
