Commelinaceae: Spiderwort

Linear, alternate, parallel-veined leaves that sheathe the knotty, succulent, juicy stems. Flowers in clusters at the top of the stems have 3 sepals and 3 petals that open 1 or 2 at a time. In some cases the third petal is smaller than the other two. Usually blue.
