Status: Native
Plant: erect, perennial, 4"-40" tall forb with all parts densely hairy
Flower: head with 7-14 cream rays; bracts (phyllaries) narrowly rounded, yellowish; inflorescence a 10" long, narrow, branched, longer than wide cluster; blooms Aug.-Oct.
Fruit:smooth dry seed on fluffy pappus
Leaf:hairy on both sides, elliptical, upper leaves obviously smaller
Habitat: dry; woods, meadows; in rocky soil
Notes: similar to S. hispida but rays whitish
