Plant: erect, perennial, 8"-32" tall forb with milky juice, mostly very smooth and waxy-looking; stems leafy
Flower: head 3/4" wide with yellow to orange ray flowers; inflorescence several long-stalked heads from the upper leaf axil; blooms May-Aug.
Fruit:dry seed on fluffy pappus
Leaf:alternate, basal, widely elliptical, lower stalked, upper leaves clasping
Habitat: moderate moisture; prairies, woods, meadows
