Status: Introduced - naturalized
Plant: erect, annual, 8"-40" tall forb with milky juice; taprooted
Flower: head 1" wide with yellow ray flowers; inflorescence of several heads branched along the stem; blooms June-Oct.
Fruit:dry, dark purple/brown seed with 10 ribs on a whitish, fluffy pappus
Leaf:alternate, getting smaller toward the top; basal leaves stalked, lance-like with a pointed tip, toothed to pinnately-divided; stem leaves stalkless, mostly linear
Habitat: disturbed sites; in sandy soil
