August 2 (Sunday). Botany blitz at North Fork Eau
Claire River State Natural Area no. 525. Meet at 10 AM. A revisit to North
Fork Eau Claire River, starting on the south end and this time, walking
along the east side.
Take Hwy 10 west from Stevens Point to Fairchild. Then take County Hwy H north about
8 miles. Then take Channey Road (this is about 1.5 miles north of junction
of H and Rock Dam Road) 2 miles west to the Eau Claire River bridge.
We’ll probably spend most of our time this visit at the south end of the
site, walking in along the EAST (not west as in the 21 June visit) side of
the river. It will involve
some bushwacking off-trail and perhaps some wet feet. A canoe will not be needed.
Bring water, tick repellent and lunch. I will bring copies of maps and
air photos of the site to help you navigate. Also an Eau Claire County plant checklist and “hitlist”
so we know which plants to collect.
We should harvest several dozen county records if we are lucky!
